Soybean harvest losses typically range from 1 to 2 bushels per acre under good conditions. Given projected market prices, this translates to $14.40 to $28.80 per acre of lost income. However, harvest losses can be significantly higher when challenging conditions such as short plants, lodged plants, green stems or harvest delays occur. Mike Staton, Michigan State University Extension soybean senior educator, will present information to help producers learn how to measure and reduce soybean harvest losses during the Michigan State University Extension Field Crops Virtual Breakfast at 7 a.m. on Sept. 8, 2022. Staton will cover equipment selection and maintenance, harvest timing and equipment operation and adjustment.

Following Staton's presentation, MSU Extension climatologist Jeff Andresen will present a 15-minute weather summary and forecast. One RUP credit and one CCA credit will be awarded following the presentations. A question and answer period will follow until 8 a.m. Other MSU Extension specialists and educators will be available for discussion.
