On Monday, March 23, 2015, the Placemaking Strategy Development Workshop Series kicked off in Sault Ste. Marie. The series, co-hosted by the MSU Land Policy Institute, MSU Extension and the Michigan Municipal League, continues into May with workshops taking place in more than 30 communities across Michigan.
There are two sets of workshops to choose from: Option 1 workshops (three hours of instruction), or Option 2 workshops (three hours of instruction and three hours of facilitated development of a draft placemaking strategy for each community in attendance). The next set of workshops for each type are listed below:
- Option 1: Lansing (Apr. 21), Traverse City (May 6), and more.
- Option 2: Caro (Apr. 9), Standish (Apr. 13), Mt Pleasant (Apr. 14), Mason (Apr. 15), Hillsdale and Lawrence (Apr. 16), Manistee (Apr. 17), Rogers City (Apr. 20), Lansing and Lapeer (Apr. 21), Adrian and Reed City (Apr. 23), Muskegon (Apr. 29), Hart (Apr. 30), and more.
The intended audience for these workshops are city council and township boards; local, county and regional staff; county and planning commissioners; and key developers and community members. Communities will need multiple participants to maximize synergy and benefit for the community, especially for Option 2 Workshops.
These workshops are free and open to the public with meals on your own. RSVPs are required and registration is available online. Space is limited to first come, first served, so register today! Michigan Citizen Planner is offering one CEU (continuing education unit) per one hour of instruction for Master Citizen Planners (three (3.0) CEUs for Option 1 workshops, up to six (6.0) CEUs for Option 2 workshops).
