Start to plan a winter adventure in your own backyard

Michigan is truly a four-season destination with something for everyone. Get out and enjoy “Pure” Michigan in the winter.

Michigan in the winter… The pure beauty, the quiet, the refreshing views and slower pace that allows time to reflect on the year that has just passed and what the next will have in store. We are lucky, as Michiganders, that we have this in our own backyard. This holds true for every season, especially for winter. With hundreds of miles of maintained trail systems, many downhill and cross country ski venues and resorts, vast wilderness and National Forests to explore, and the white crystalline quiet of a fresh snow fall, what isn’t to enjoy about Michigan in the winter?

From the Upper Peninsula, to the Grand Traverse Bay area, to the Sunrise Coast, to the Beach Towns and to the “Snow Belt” and Hills of Northern Michigan, there are so many great destinations to suit the needs of anyone looking to get away for a winter excursion.

As I pointed out in a previous Michigan State University Extension article entitled, “Vacation locally in “Pure” Michigan”, there are a few considerations you need to make when planning your dream vacation in our great state. Some important things to remember when making vacation plans are travel, cost, destination, experience and memories.

When planning your winter excursion, the Pure Michigan website is a great place to find a wealth of information in one location online. Once you have decided on your destinations, you may want to consider a more localized search specific to the communities you are looking to visit for the latest listing of attractions, events and availability of lodging.

Regardless of where you go to enjoy Michigan in the winter, be sure that you do. With truly four seasons of enjoyment to experience, you may never find a reason to leave. Enjoy and embrace what we have to offer and the many great destinations available in Michigan, any time of the year!
