Statewide Breakfast on the Farm sponsors kick it up a notch

Generous financial donations from the 2011 Breakfast on the Farm statewide sponsors will benefit all eight events.

First, there was one. Then there were four. Now there are eight. Since 2009, MSU Extension Breakfast on the Farm events have connected the public with modern agriculture and food production. In 2011, eight families will graciously open their farms to family, friends, neighbors and perfect strangers. When they do, they will not be alone. They will be supported locally by volunteers sharing their time and talent and by businesses, farmers and organizations offering financial support for the event.

In addition, all eight events will receive support from the 2011 Breakfast on the Farm statewide sponsors. Believing in the mission and goals of Breakfast on the Farm, the businesses and organizations below have committed to support all of the events. In addition to sharing their professional expertise and services, all have given a generous financial donation. With gratitude and thanks we extend appreciation to the following for their commitment to agriculture and the MSU Extension Breakfast on the Farm program:

Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) and Dairy Marketing Services (DMS): DFA is a farmer-owned milk marketing cooperative focused on securing markets and bringing value to their members by helping them make their businesses more profitable. DMS markets milk for a broad base of dairy farmers, including both independent producers and members of cooperatives.

Dairyland Seed: Since 1907, Dairyland Seed has been a leading developer and provider of soybean, corn and alfalfa seed. Committed to superior genetics, Dairyland Seed has its own plant breeding and research programs for all three crops.

GreenStone Farm Credit Services: Twenty thousand members strong, GreenStone FCS provides financial services to the agricultural industry by providing loans, equipment and building leases, crop insurance, life insurance, accounting, tax and appraisal services.

Michigan Ag Council (MAC): MAC strives to connect farmers and consumers through education and communication campaigns. The council is a coalition of several commodity organizations including: GreenStone Farm Credit Services, the Corn Marketing Program of Michigan, the Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee, the Michigan Pork Producers Association, the Michigan Milk Producers Association and Michigan Farm Bureau. Current projects include “Farmers Feed US”, MAC Link, MI Foodie News, The Farm Fresh Food Blog, Farmers CARE and Breakfast on the Farm.

Corn Marketing Program of Michigan (CMPM): CMPM is a check-off program and for every bushel of corn grown in Michigan and sold, one penny comes to the CMPM and is used for research, education, market development and new uses.

Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA): Formed in 1916 by a small group of dairy farmers, MMPA is a member owned and operated dairy cooperative serving approximately 2,400 farmers in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin. MMPA is the 11th largest dairy cooperative in the United States.

Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee (MSPC): Also known as the soybean checkoff, MSPC is a farmer driven organization dedicated to increasing profit opportunity for Michigan soybean growers and to enhancing the industry’s positive public image.

Pioneer: A leading developer and supplier of plant genetics to farmers worldwide, Pioneer is committed to helping farmers boost productivity, profitability and sustainability.

United Dairy Industry of Michigan: UDIM is the umbrella organization for the Michigan Dairy News Bureau, the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council of Michigan. These non-profit organizations provide dairy product promotion and nutrition education services on behalf of funding members.
