Michigan State University Extension invites growers, agriculture professionals and irrigators to a Summer Irrigation Workshop on Thursday, Aug. 1, focused on improving irrigation efficiency.

The event will be held at the Kellogg Biological Station, 10461 N 40th St., Hickory Corners, MI 49060, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will feature a combination of hands-on demonstrations, expert presentations and field tours. Key topics include:

  • Soil texture testing (bring your own sample)
  • Irrigation system uniformity
  • Sprinkler selection
  • Irrigation scheduling tools
  • Variable rate irrigation

Attendees will also learn how to interpret evapotranspiration data and use both mobile and web-based irrigation scheduling tools to make better-informed management decisions. The program is designed to benefit new and experienced irrigators across field crops and vegetable production systems.

A mini trade show will highlight irrigation technologies, and participants will be invited to join a collaborative roundtable discussion on the future of irrigation in Michigan.

The cost to attend is $15, and registration is required. Register online or contact Angie Gradiz at gradizme@msu.edu.
