There have been several articles, broadcasts and press releases lately about obesity rates in the U.S. leveling off, or in some cases, dropping. However, there continues to be very high rates of preventable diseases in this country. According to Michigan State University Extension, illnesses like heart disease and diabetes continue to have a strong hold over much of the population. Here in Michigan, though, 4-H and Molina Healthcare are teaming up to do something about it.

Michigan 4-H will host a healthy living town hall meeting for teens to share their views about health and healthcare solutions for themselves, their schools and communities. The Teens Take on Health event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 21st, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Macomb Community College’s John Lewis Center, in Warren Mich. If you are interested in attending and especially if you are a teen who wants to participate, register at http://events.anr.msu.edu/Molina13/.

This unique program, sponsored by Molina Healthcare, provides an open forum for teens to discuss and raise their voices on the leading healthcare issues facing the nation today. This event will allow youth to interact, share their concerns and brainstorm solutions among their peers, parents, local and state legislative officials, stakeholders, and Molina Healthcare representatives in an effort to co-create healthier communities across the nation.

Since its founding, 4-H has addressed national issues including nutrition, fitness and safety in its programs, as well as social and emotional well-being. 4-H Healthy Living programs encompass a holistic approach that includes healthy eating habits, physical fitness, the capacity to recognize and direct emotions, and the ability to develop and maintain positive social interactions and relationships.

Molina Healthcare, Inc. provides quality and cost-effective Medicaid-related solutions to meet the health care needs of low-income families and individuals and to assist state agencies in their administration of the Medicaid program.
