Join MSU Extension field crops educators for this free virtual Thumb Ag Day on Dec. 8, 2021.
Thumb Ag Day will be held virtually on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021, from 9 a.m. until noon. The program is hosted by Michigan State University Extension and is free to all field crops producers, agribusiness personnel, agency personnel and agriculture enthusiasts. Registration is required.
Thumb Ag Day has been a staple since about 1972, bringing field trial results and new information to farmers. What started out as a corn meeting has turned into a meeting to cover a broad array of topics concerning field crop production and marketing. While this year’s format is still a bit different with a virtual presence instead of the ability to meet in person, we still strive to bring the newest information to you, just from the comfort of your home or office.
The topics this year are diverse. Thumb Field Trial Results from the year will be presented by Phil Kaatz, an MSU Extension educator who focuses on field crops and forages. Dean Bass, the MSU Extension cover crop specialist, will give a presentation titled, “Lots of heat, lots of rain, lots of cover crops…now what?” MSU wheat specialist Dennis Pennington will give his annual Michigan wheat update. Manni Singh, MSU field cropping systems specialist, and his graduate student Harkirat Kaur will give an update on corn silage mycotoxins. The final presentation will be by Matt Gammans, MSU ag economist, focusing on the market outlook and carbon credits.
Also on the agenda for this year are the two new field crops educators in the Thumb. Kaleb Ortner is based in Caro, Michigan, at the Tuscola County MSU Extension office and Jenna Falor is based in Bad Axe, Michigan, at the Huron County MSU Extension office.

Webinar participants will be eligible for three MDARD RUP credits (Private Core, Commercial Core, 1A, 1B), three CCA CEUs (one Nutrient Management, 1.5 Crop Management, 0.5 Professional Development) and is a MAEAP Phase 1 event.
