MSU social and natural scientists are working with scholars at India’s Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI). Together, we aim to identify factors promoting resilient coastal communities and marine ecosystems.

Julia Novak Colwell, MSU doctoral student in Fisheries & Wildlife, will be a Fulbright fellow hosted by CMFRI in 2015. Her study addresses gender-differentiated effects of fisheries management, while other collaborative research analyzes the impact of mobile phone access on coastal fisheries sustainability.

Research findings will help local social-ecological systems adapt in the face of global market and environmental shocks.

“Not only will our trip be educational,” said Kathryn Reed, assistant director of CANR alumni relations. “We’ll see some of the most impressive sights in the country.”

Tour Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore National Park, Jaipur, Kochi and Mumbai. Join Dean Fred Poston, director of AgBioResearch and CANR senior associate dean for research Doug Buhler, professor and senior associate to the dean in the CANR Karim Maredia and Reed.
