Fruit IPM Meeting

Our next Monday fruit meeting will be June 11 at Fruit Acres Farms at 5 p.m. Fruit Acres is located on the northeast corner of Friday and Carmody Roads about 1.5 miles south of the Coloma Exit on I-94. One RUP credit is available at the meeting.

Blueberry Pre-harvest Twilight Meeting

Scheduled for Wednesday, June 13, at Leduc’s Blueberries, located west of Kalamazoo, Mich. The meeting will be in Leduc’s processing facility south of M-43 at 33818 CR 653 (29th Street), Paw Paw, Mich. (view map). The cost for this meeting will be $10 at the door. Dinner will be provided and will start at 5:30 p.m. After dinner there will be a review of harvest concerns in blueberries including insect and disease management, irrigation and other topics. Please RSVP to the Van Buren County MSU Extension office at 1-269-657-8213 so we can have accurate counts for supper. Two RUP credits are available at the meeting.

Sprayer Rodeo

Register now for the Sprayer Rodeo to be held at SWMREC on June 27from 3 to 8 p.m. Even though this meeting is targeted for grape growers, other fruit growers will want to attend. Learn how to optimize your sprayer coverage, maximize sprayer performance and reduce pesticide costs. Mark Ledebuhr of Application Insight and John Stone of the MSU Pesticide Safety Education Program will return for this workshop. The workshop features vineyard sprayer demonstrations and sprayer setups for full canopy applications using working sprayers. Growers who bring their sprayer will have the opportunity to have it calibrated by an industry expert and have vertical distribution of their sprayers checked and adjusted using the patternator – a limited number of slots are available.

Contact Diane Brown at 269-944-0157 by June 20 if you want to take advantage of this opportunity or if you need more information. Sprayers brought to the station must have clean tanks. Please RSVP to the Berrien County MSU Extension office at 1-269-944-4126 so we can have accurate counts for supper. Cost for the meeting is $25 and includes supper and 4 RUP credits. Partial sponsorship for the Sprayer Rodeo has been underwritten by the National Grape Cooperative and the Michigan Grape and Wine Industry Council.
