WKAR Family gives visual resources for parents and caregivers

A new initiative called WKAR Family provides resources for parents and caregivers to help support their child’s development.

You may have heard there is a new television channel dedicated to providing quality children’s programming 24 hours a day. This channel is provided by PBS Kids and is designed to give parents access to high-quality children’s programming during all parts of the day. Many local public television stations such as Detroit Public Television and our local WKAR station have picked up the PBS Kids channel and designed additional support resources for parents to access to help support and enhance their children’s development.

In addition to carrying the PBS Kids Channel, WKAR has started a new initiative called WKAR Family. They have partnered with different departments on the campus of Michigan State University, including MSU Extension, to develop videos parents can view that address different areas of development like learning math through play and infant signs for young children, and exploring careers and the performing arts for older children.

These videos can be accessed by parents and caregivers by visiting the WKAR Family website. These videos were produced in partnership with different faculty and staff at MSU and MSU Extension. They are a great way for parents and caregivers to get more information and support their child’s development.

More videos and resources will be added, so be sure to check back often. You can also connect with WKAR Family through their: WKAR Family Facebook page. Be sure to connect with all the resources that WKAR and PBS Kids offer.
