Professional development

Fostering a community of interdisciplinary scholars

Fellows will enter as a cohort and move through the program together. In order to foster a strong and supportive community of peers among the fellows and faculty, the program includes frequent group social events and an annual retreat for fellows and faculty mentors.

Career development

In addition to academic and non-academic mentoring, the program incorporates a structured professional planning and career development program, which provides extensive support organized around an individualized career matrix and professional development plan (PREP). Fellows can participate in numerous activities to foster professional development and leadership training.

Fellows are encouraged to participate in programs for future faculty professional development, the Center for Academic and Future Faculty Excellence, the Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate. Interdisciplinary fellows will also be encouraged to develop their teaching skills and credentials by participating in the Certification in College Teaching Program, also offered by the MSU Graduate School.
