YOUTH REGISTRATION

PREPARING TO REGISTER

Please go to the Exploration Days website and:

  • Review the registration tip handout (coming soon!)
  • Read the Exploration Days handbook
  • Look at the session listing and choose which ones interest you. You can pick an A and B session with a D session OR choose a C session and D session. A helpful trick is to pick a few choices in case your favorite is full. Sessions may have age limits, may be repeated at a different time (noted with an asterisk), or have special considerations for dress or pre-work so read the descriptions closely.

AT TIME OF REGISTRATION

Families must pay the $50 deposit at the time of registration for each youth unless arrangements have been made with me in advance. Please contact me if you would like to discuss options for offsetting the cost! You can pay by cash, credit card, or check. Depending on payment option follow the below instructions:

  • If paying by electronic check or credit card… you may apply payment of the $50.00 deposit directly to your registration upon submission.
  • If paying by check or cash, you will need to contact your local 4-H Office prior to registering to receive the 2022 coupon code and to submit payment.  Payment MUST be received by the extension office before you will be given the coupon code - contact me with any questions!

There will be partial scholarships offered to all youth that will be attending exploration days. IMPORTANT: During the registration process, DO NOT PAY any additional balance on the payment options page until the above scholarship payments have been credited to your registration. MSU will NOT reimburse participants for payments covered by a scholarship or are not applied correctly after registration has been submitted.

After scholarships, the remaining balance owed is your responsibility.  You can set up payment plans or pay the full amount at registration. In order to aid, the Fee Schedule can also be found on the website.

ADULT REGISTRATION

PREPARING TO REGISTER

Please contact me if you are interested in attending as a chaperone, as there are additional steps that need to be completed for you to be a chaperone and receive a scholarship to offset the cost of registration! I will set a time to meet with you individually to discuss the role of a chaperone at this event. Chaperones will need to complete the Volunteer Selection Process, which you can learn more about here

As a reminder, 4-H Exploration Days is a youth development conference. Adults should attend the event to help ensure the physical and emotional safety and well-being of the youth participants and create rich learning experiences for them. Adults will serve as chaperones, session support, and/or a free time host.  Adults are expected to abide by the Michigan State University Extension Volunteer Code of Conduct, the event rules, and all other university regulations.  Adults will not sign up for sessions but will have a choice of sessions/activities that they might wish to support during the event.

What’s It All About?

This year almost 1,000 youth (ages 12-19) and chaperones from across Michigan are invited to attend this event this year! This fun MSU pre-college program could be the highlight of your summer - it could even change your life! 4-H Exploration Days opens on April 14th at 7:00pm. Sessions have limited spaces, so be sure to register as soon as possible when it opens! Session assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis. As you select your session choices, be sure to watch for age restrictions! Age requirements for sessions are based on your age as of January 1.

Eligibility Requirements: 4-H Explorations Days is open to all youth between the ages of 12-19 as of January 1st of the current program year. All participants must be enrolled in 4-H Online. Any youth aged 18, 19 or 20 at the time of the event must complete a background check, which includes a reference check and a criminal history check. Local MSU Extension staff are responsible for ensuring that this background check is completed before the event.

This MSU pre-college program is designed to:

  • Increase responsibility, confidence, independence, accountability, problem-solving, decision-making and time management skills.
  • Increase communication, team work, citizenship, and leadership skills.
  • Foster ability to meet new people and make new friends from different places and backgrounds.
  • Develop and expand career and personal interests.
  • Increase college exploration and access to the Michigan State University campus and its resources.
  • Develop social and academic skills needed for a successful transition to college and life as an adult.
  • Give youth opportunities to try things that aren’t available in their county.

What’s it like?

  • There’ll be more than 100 session choices held on and off campus. You’ll choose two or three for your three-day stay.
  • You’ll live in a Michigan State University dorm and eat in the cafeteria—just like MSU students do.
  • Sessions are taught by people who know their stuff, including MSU faculty members, 4-H volunteers and staff members and other experts.
  • It’s not all sessions! There’s plenty of time for fun, including skating, souvenir shopping, exploring, bowling, basketball—even a great dance Thursday night.
  • The 2022 cost is $220.  For more information please see the Registration Information page.
    • The fee includes meals, a shared room in a dorm, sessions and a t-shirt. The 4-H Council will be offering partial scholarships to all youth attending this program.
