Background:

Ale is a Ph.D. student with Dr. Jerrold Belant working on the population ecology of gray wolves in the Great Lakes region. Her project aims to understand drivers of wolf mortality as well as how anthropogenic mortality affects pack dynamics and reproduction. She obtained her B.Sc. from the University of British Columbia, where she conducted research on zebrafish welfare and cognition. She also completed a Master’s degree at the University of Victoria where she developed an agent-based model for grizzly bear movement and learning behavior. Her work focused on how bears make decisions at multiple scales in a complex and dynamic landscape and how landscape features and behavior might affect the way translocated individuals react to novel environments. Her research interests include carnivore ecology and behavior, human-wildlife coexistence, and wildlife management. In her spare time, Ale enjoys backpacking, climbing, and reading in hammocks.
