Amos Ziegler
Bio
Amos Ziegler is the Principal Investigator (PI) and group leader of the Applied Spatial Ecology and Technical Services (ASETS) research group, which he founded in 2008 within the Department of Entomology at Michigan State University. Under his leadership, ASETS has grown into a nationally recognized hub for applied research at the intersection of spatial technology, ecology, and invasive species management.
Concentrations
- Geospatial Informatics and Spatial Ecology
- Citizen Science and Public Engagement Systems
- Information Systems and Technology Infrastructure
- Collaborative Network Development and Program Integration
Research
Research led by Amos Ziegler within the ASETS group focuses on applying spatial ecology and technical innovation to support large-scale invasive species monitoring and management. Current ASETS projects include designing national strategies for spongy moth population monitoring, advancing emerald ash borer management through the development of release and recovery tracking frameworks and building large-scale data management systems to support invasive species survey, detection and mitigation programs. ASETS regularly collaborates with state and federal agencies, serving as a trusted partner in invasive species monitoring and control efforts.
Outreach
The ASETS research group at Michigan State University integrates geospatial science with ecology to advance invasive species management and promote public participation in ecological stewardship. Through an interconnected network of programs including the Midwest Invasive Species Information Network (MISIN), Eyes on the Forest (iForest), and the Michigan Invasive Species Coalition (MISC) ASETS engages citizens, educators, and agencies in collaborative monitoring, reporting, and response to ecological threats.
