Biography: I am from Rwanda, but my family lives in Nairobi, Kenya. My family moved to Kenya, back in 1994 after the war, so I have spent most of my life in Nairobi. However, I studied in a refugee school (in French), and therefore, I am fluent in English, French, and Swahili. Having grown up with other Rwandans and Kenyans, I consider myself more as an East African. I have been involved in the scout movement since 2005, and I really enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, volunteering, and anything else that involves nature. I completed my undergraduate studies in Nairobi, Kenya, at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA). My final year thesis was titled 'Bird Species Diversity in CUEA's Main Campus'. During data collection, I learned the names of several bird species and their characteristics. To this day, I still try to learn about birds whenever I can. So, when I get to Michigan, and you see me zoning out and staring at a certain bird, you have a clue as to why. My research interests are not limited to birds only. I am also very interested in terrestrial animal species, especially mammals.
