Background:

Caleb is a PhD student in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife and the Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior Program here at MSU. He received his bachelor’s in wildlife biology from Grand Valley State University in 2018, where he worked in the lab of Dr. Bob Hollister researching phenological shifts in arctic vegetation, and in the lab of Dr. Jen Moore on several projects with eastern massasauga rattlesnakes. From there, Caleb moved to Iowa State University to earn a master’s researching the evolution of temperature-dependent sex determination (TSD) in turtles under the supervision of Dr. Fred Janzen. Having graduated in 2021 and with the support of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program and the Chelonian Research Foundation, Caleb will continue working with Dr. Janzen out of KBS to investigate, among other things, adaptation in the TSD system as well as population structure in the spotted turtle, a candidate for protection under the Endangered Species Act.
