Erin Lauwers
Erin Lauwers is the Tree Fruit Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Educator for the Northwest region and is based in the Northwest Michigan Horticulture Research Center (NWMHRC) in Traverse City, MI. She provides local and statewide leadership and educational programming expertise in IPM in tree fruit, primarily cherries and apples. She supports tree fruit growers in the region and strives to help growers be successful and sustainable.
Erin grew up on her family’s farm in southeast Michigan and attended Michigan State University (MSU) where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture Science. During her undergraduate studies she interned in the MSU Horticulture Department where she assisted with research on tree fruit and small fruit. She also spent three years as a Summer Research Technician at the NWMHRC helping with research on cherries and apples including projects in entomology, pathology, and horticulture. Erin returned to MSU to pursue a master’s degree in Plant Pathology where she worked on bacterial canker disease of sweet cherry and bacteriophage as a biological control.
