John Paskus just joined CSUS after 27 years of professional experience working for the Michigan Natural Features Inventory, a program of Michigan State University Extension. As a Senior Conservation Scientist and Lead Conservation Planner, John’s work focused on applied research, collaborative planning and public outreach in the field of biodiversity conservation across a range of scales from rare natural communities to Great Lakes basins. One of the last projects he worked on while at MNFI was the development of a series of six educational videos focused on Great Lakes coastal resiliency. John’s current and future teaching assignments include: CSUS 276 (Sustaining our National Parks and Recreation Lands), CSUS 476 (Natural Resource Recreation Management), CSUS 493 (Professional Internship in Community Sustainability), a brand-new course CSUS 426 (Conservation Planning and Adaptive Management), as well as CSUS 320 (Environmental Planning and Management) which he has taught since 2017. He earned a MLA in Landscape Architecture and Planning and a BS in Natural Resource Management both from the University of Michigan. John currently serves on a number of Boards including the Fenner Nature Conservancy, Wayne State University’s new T-RUST program and the global Conservation Coaches Network (CCNET).
