Dr. Everett’s research interests include the application of social-psychological theories to Conservation Education and Human Dimensions of Wildlife and Ecosystems. Additionally, Dr. Everett utilizes Teaching-as-Research (TAR) and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) to assist in the developmental process of teaching and learning for undergraduate classroom instruction.
Undergraduate Program Coordinator
Dr. Everett currently serves as the undergraduate program coordinator for the Department of Community Sustainability (CSUS). Programs within the department currently include Bachelor of Science degrees in Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Education, Environmental Studies and Sustainability and Sustainable Parks, Recreation and Tourism. Additionally, CSUS is the programmatic home for one minor (Sustainable Natural Resource Recreation Management). Currently the three majors and one minor have approximately 400 students.
Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources M.A. Program Coordinator
Dr. Everett is also the program coordinator for the Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Education Master of Arts degree. This degree promoted to individuals interested in gaining additional education and knowledge in the realm of agriculture, food and natural resources from an educational perspective. Students interested in this program may have career goals in school-based agriculture education, Extension and various forms of non-formal education. This degree program is designed as a largely on-line program with limited instances of in-person learning and project presentation. Dr. Everett’s assists students in the advising process. Michael's primary role in advising is assisting AFNRE students through their program. However, Dr. Everett also advises for students in the Environmental Studies and Sustainability and Sustainable Parks, Recreation and Tourism majors. Dr. Everett holds chair roles for various Michigan FFA Career Development Events. These events include the Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Education CDE, Junior High Public Speaking, and Environmental Skills Contest. Michael also assists in judging a number of event in conjunction with the Michigan FFA Association.
Dr. Everett was once a professional athlete. Mike competed on the AMA professional motorcycle racing circuit in 1992 and 1993. During the summer months he traveled to races across the midwest and east coast riding a 540cc Triumph Hillclimber. Additionally, during his undergraduate program, Mike was also a member Olivet College Comets football team where he handled the placekicking duties in 1990.
