Ming-Han Li is professor and director of the MSU School of Planning, Design and Construction (SPDC). Li’s unique strength is his interdisciplinary background. He is a professional engineer and a professional landscape architect in the state of Texas, with a bachelor of science degree in agricultural engineering (National Taiwan University), master of science in civil engineering (The University of Texas at Austin), both master of landscape architecture and PhD in urban and regional sciences from Texas A&M University (TAMU).

As director, Li oversees four professional programs (construction management, interior design, landscape architecture, and urban & regional planning), a Ph.D. program and the National Charrette Institute. Li’s administrative responsibilities encompass the overall teaching, research and outreach missions of the school, including fiscal resources, personnel, infrastructure, program accreditation, development and stakeholder relations. Li represents the school’s interests on campus (e.g., campus infrastructure’s planning, design and construction), and with key external stakeholders, including alumni, donors and industry friends.

Li’s research experience and background covers stormwater management, Low Impact Development, watershed planning and management, soil erosion and roadside vegetation management. His teaching has focused on sustainable water management, low impact development and landscape architecture construction. Li was involved in the work of transportation environment of Texas A&M Transportation Institute, the National Cooperative Highway Research Program, and the Texas Department of Transportation research projects.

Li has served the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) in various positions, including president, past president, president-elect, vice president for research, 2nd vice president and track chair. He is a member of the Transportation Research Board Committee AKD40 Landscape and Environmental Design.

Li has received several awards, including the Montague Teaching Award at TAMU (’06), Student-Led Awards for Teaching Excellence, Texas A&M University System (’10), the Outstanding Communications Award (’12) and the President’s Award (’15) from CELA, and the Distinguish Achievement Award in Teaching from the Association of Former Students at TAMU (’15). He was named the 2017 top 25 “Most Admired Educators” by DesignIntelligence. In 2017, Li was inducted to the Academy of Fellows by the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture. He was inducted to the Council of Fellows by the American Society of Landscape Architects in 2019.
