Originally from Massachusetts, Rachael came to Michigan State in 2018 to study Community Sustainability. She learned more about Flint, MI after working in the water treatment industry as an Environmental Manager focused on helping prevent and remediate Legionella outbreaks in the North Eastern United States. Rachael decided to pursue a career in community-engaged research, due to her love of interacting with people and curiosity for complex social-ecological system problems. She is primarily interested in taking a participatory approach to study urban food systems. Rachael is also passionate about creatively employing quantitative and qualitative tools in participatory contexts and taking an innovative approach mixed methods research. Currently, she is working to combine visioning and Q methodology to explore community priorities for the future of the food system. Moving forward, Rachael is interested in explore the role of faith communities in urban food security.
