Rahul is a PhD candidate in the Agriculture, Food, and Resource Economics program (dual with the Economics Department). He earned a dual degree in Math and Physics at the University of North Georgia (previously North Georgia College and State University), where he participated in the Reserve Officer Training Corps to earn a commission in the US Army. Rahul spent roughly 11 years in the US Army and US Army Reserves prior to entering the PhD program at MSU, which included deployments to both Afghanistan and Iraq. Following his time in the Army, Rahul developed a passion to understand why people make certain decisions. This naturally led to the study of economics, and eventually to the desire to understand why people make unhealthy lifestyle choices knowing the consequences of those choices. Specifically, his current research focuses on understanding relationships between diet and health, such as what effect the consumption of ultra-processed food might have on nutrition-related health.
