RayShawnda Temple is a Community Nutrition Instructor at Michigan State University Extension. She has worked in this capacity since July 2019.
 

In this role, she is responsible for building partnerships throughout Wayne County to offer under-resourced children and their families, free evidence-based nutrition, and physical activity classes under the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). During these interactive classes, participants learn and share healthy habits, taste test new foods, and participate in a fun physical activity.

Prior to joining MSU Extension RayShawnda worked as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor in Detroit. She has always had a passion for helping others find joy in food and fitness. She is dedicated to improving the health of the community and the work she does shows.

RayShawnda holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and food science with a minor in Spanish from Wayne State University. She is currently a candidate for a Master of Public Health degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, where she has been awarded the 2022-23 Graduate Professional Scholarship. Her work in the community, academic achievement, and commitment to addressing the disparities that impact the health of minorities earned her the 2023 John B. Waller Public Health Endowment Scholarship. She is proficient in Spanish and holds certifications in Adult and Youth Mental Health and ServSafe.
