Sam Lawrence is a Michigan State University Extension 4-H Program Coordinator in Kalamazoo County. He has been in this role since 2023.
In his role as a 4-H Program Coordinator, Sam Provides leadership and management of Local 4-H programs, Volunteers, and youth participants in Kalamazoo County. He promotes and strengthens the Kalamazoo County 4-H program by developing programs and partnerships, promoting, and evaluating 4-H programs, and recruiting and training volunteers. Sam is also the liaison from the state Michigan 4-H office and helps to ensure that statewide opportunities and information is available to local participants.
Sam grew up in the Calhoun County 4-H program, starting off his journey in 4-H with tie blankets and ceramic paintings at the county fair. From there He found joy in finding new opportunities to learn leadership, communication skills and Civic engagement through 4-H. As his involvement in 4-h grew, He found himself joining State Youth Leadership Council (SYLC) which helped him develop his public speaking, advocacy, communication, and leadership skills.
Before Joining MSU Extension in 2023, Sam attended Michigan State University (Go Green) where he Earned a Bachelor of Agriculture Business management with a focus of environmental economics. In addition to his degree, He worked for the Department of natural resources (DNR) as an explorer Guide for two years. During his time as the DNR Explorer guide, he brought programming to youth on environmental and conservation.
