Mrs. Stella Nwawulu Chiemela arrived in January 2018. Her MSU supervisor was Dr. Laura Kathryn Schmitt Olabisi, Department of Community Sustainability.
On March 31, Mrs. Stella and 2 other project scholars made presentations at African Graduate Students Association (AGSA)’s annual conference at Michigan State University (MSU). The title of her presentation was: "Role of agroforestry systems in ecosystem services and food security in Southern Nigeria".
Mrs. Stella returned to Nigeria in May 2018 and has been actively involved in data collection on community level adaptation strategies in Ebonyi State. This builds on the training that she received at MSU (on mental modeling). Mrs. Chiemela worked with project collaborator; Dr. Onyeneke on applying mental models to collect data on climate change adaptation across selected communities in three local governments in Ebonyi state that have suffered extreme loss due to climate change. She has also been working with the climate change team to secure data and information on rice production in Ebonyi for the systems dynamics modeling
