Sydney grew up in a small town in central New York near Lake Ontario. Now a PhD student in the Center for Systems Integration and Sustainability advised by Jianguo "Jack" Liu, Sydney's research investigates the ecology of arctic marine mammals and human-wildlife interactions in the dynamic environment of the Bering Strait. She attended SUNY Oswego where she earned her bachelor's degree in biology with minors in geology and sustainability studies. Her undergraduate research focused on the applications of environmental DNA to conservation issues in the Great Lakes. After graduation in May of 2020, she took a gap year and moved to Albany, New York to work as a QC microbiologist. In her free time, Sydney enjoys hot yoga, weightlifting, volleyball, and sunny weather.
