Victor Malacco, Ph.D.
Victor Malacco was raised on a dairy farm and has always been surrounded by agricultural activities. As a veterinarian student in Brazil, he assisted in leading an extension program to improve milk quality and reduce mastitis in dairy herds in Minas Gerais – Brazil's largest milk-producing state. Working on this project sparked his interest in practical research questions raised by the farmers and community, which led him to pursue a master's and Ph.D. in Animal Science.
His research career has focused on dairy cow nutrition, protein, and amino acids feeding strategies to improve productivity, profitability, efficiency, and sustainability. In 2018, he was awarded a doctoral fellowship to develop part of his Ph.D. research at Purdue University. Upon graduation, he continued working at Purdue as a postdoctoral researcher developing studies in partnership with public and private institutions.
He joined the MSU Extension dairy team in December of 2021. He hopes to be a resource on dairy herd health, management, milk quality, nutrition, efficiency, and environmental sustainability. For Victor, working as a dairy educator with MSU Extension is an opportunity to give back to the dairy farm community by providing high-quality information, advising in the decision-making process, and empowering and supporting farmers to identify and pursue their goals.
