Food Systems Resilience During the Coronavirus Pandemic: CACFP Programs, Food Hub Responses, and the Michigan Good Food Charter 2.0

August 20, 2020 - Lynn Cavett, <bielacz1@msu.edu>, <scaleral@msu.edu>, Abby Harper, <matts@msu.edu>, <zaire@msu.edu>

In this meeting, we first hear from our guest speakers:

  • Lynn Cavett, Michigan Department of Education, provides an update on Michigan sites offering the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP),
  • Noel Bielaczyc, MSU Center for Regional Food Systems and MFIN Management Team, offers a sneak peak of the 2019 National Food Hub Survey results, including how hubs are marketing to institutions, and
  • Lindsey Scalera, MSU Center for Regional Food Systems, shares about the 2020 Michigan Good Food Charter process and opportunities to engage.

Then, we discuss overarching questions related to the Good Food Charter work – COVID-19 and food systems resilience, advancing equity and justice, and values-based purchasing – and how they apply to the Michigan Farm to Institution Network as we work to chart our course beyond 2020.
