    The last decade has seen a rapid expansion of hop acreage outside the traditional North American production regions. To assist prospective hop producers in understanding the challenges and complexity of hop production, the Great Lakes Hop Working Group has developed a comprehensive introductory course focused on production in reemerging regions including the northern Plains, Great Lakes and Northeast.

  • Integrated Pest Management Academy

    The Desire to Learn Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Academy is an interactive, online program designed to provide a comprehensive and convenient online learning experience. Current topics include an introduction to IPM, plant science, soils 101, natural enemies, conserving pollinators, Enviroweather and scouting.

  • Introduction to Lakes

    Introduction to Lakes is a six-week online course specially designed for lake users, lakefront property owners and lake managers interested in learning about inland lakes. From the comfort of home or office, participants have 24/7 access to six online units complete with closed-captioned video lectures, interactive activities, additional resources, discussion forums, quizzes and live chat sessions with classmates and MSU Extension experts.

  • Manure Hauler Certification Program

    The certification program creates a clear pathway for farms and for-hire manure applicators (firms) to move from training, to certification, to third party audit (incentivized by reductions in insurance premiums) without implementing a mandatory program. There are three levels to the certification program. Passing the online course with a score of 80% or more is one of two components of becoming Level 1 certified.

  • Michigan Cottage Food Law

    The Michigan Cottage Food Law allows Michigan residents to manufacture and store certain foods in unlicensed home kitchens. Through this training, you will learn about preparing and selling foods under the Michigan Cottage Food Law. In addition, the course reviews important food safety practices when preparing and selling food to the public.

  • Michigan Eyes on the Forest Sentinel Tree Network

    The Michigan Eyes on the Forest Sentinel Tree Network presentations provide information about invasive forest pests that could have a detrimental effect on Michigan’s forest health. Instruction for individual monitoring of a “sentinel tree” for early detection of forest pests is also provided. The length of the program can vary from one to three hours. The program is grant funded, allowing us to provide it at no cost.

  • Michigan Master Naturalist Course

    The MSU Extension Michigan Master Naturalist Program is available to all persons interested in understanding and conserving the native ecology of the state beginning in their own backyards. Local programs are coordinated by local partner groups throughout the state. The course is delivered in monthly sessions over a period of six months.

  • Michigan Paddle Stewards

    The Michigan Paddle Stewards new online program from Michigan Sea Grant and MSU Extension will help paddlers learn about important invasive species, to properly clean a watercraft and to report invasive species.

  • Money Management

    MSU Extension has an important role to play in addressing issues of the financial health of individuals and families through live online educational programs. The overarching goal of these efforts is for Michigan consumers to become aware of their personal financial profile, to adopt sound financial practices, including managing spending and savings plans and using financial products and services in a beneficial manner.

    In this course you’ll learn about many aspects of horse nutrition, including anatomy, horse behavior, nutrients, nutritional requirements, feedstuffs, evaluating and balancing a ration, diseases affecting nutrition, and feeding management.

  • My Horse University Summer Horse Care 101

    The Michigan State University Extension Equine Team has put together a Summer Horse Care online course series and is offering it FREE of charge during 2020.

  • My Way to Wellness

    Are you interested in taking an online nutrition course that fits into your schedule? My Way to Wellness is a new online nutrition program for low-income residents of Michigan offered by MSU Extension. It is self-paced, so you can take it any time that works for you, from anywhere. The course reviews healthy food choices, physical activity, goal setting, food safety, food labels and more. The course has interactive activities and quizzes to aid in learning.

  • Online College of Knowledge

    These online, self-paced courses provide basic training to floriculture growers in Michigan and beyond in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Each section consists of recorded lectures, self-assessment quizzes and links to more information.

  • ONLINE National Diabetes Prevention Program

    This course is designed for people who are at-risk for developing type 2 diabetes. The focus is on establishing lifestyle changes that promote slow, steady weight loss including healthy eating, physical activity and goal setting.
