One of the goals of The North Farm is to provide valuable data to other growers, academics, and agriculture professionals regarding northern latitude vegetable production, season extension technologies, cold storage technologies, and organic soil management practices. Through variety trials, data logging, product/technology application, and observation, we aim to provide valuable insight into what works well in northern conditions.
Money and support from various agencies and organizations in Michigan and around the country have provided us the opportunity to conduct research at The North Farm. Currently, variety trials are being conducted a several warm- and cool-season crops with funds provided by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), as well as seed for winter crop trials provided by Johnny's Selected Seeds. We will be analyzing this data as the project continues, which will then be made publicly available.
