Life of the Straits: Michilimackinac
August 6, 2020
In this edition of the Life of the Straits we have been given exclusive access by the Mackinac Historic Parks to film the highlights from one of the state’s most engaging and interesting historical sites: Michilimackinac
Michilimackinac is a long word, but it represents a deep history full of twists and turns, war and peace, betrayal and trust. In this video you will learn all about the fort, Michilimackinac. Make sure to stick around for one of the best Q&As as we are extremely lucky to have Eric Hemenway join us. He is director of the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians Department of Repatriation, Archives and Records. Eric shares some of the deep history of the Anishinaabe people in the straits region, and provides vibrant information about how the Tribe continues to work towards maintaining and enhancing their community in the region. We end with a challenge activity to learn from your elders some of your own history.
