View all Strength Training Basics VideosTo perform a standing dumbbell curl, start with your feet shoulder width apart with a pair of dumbbells in each hand. The weights can start either at your side or in front of you with your palms facing away from you. With your chest up and core tight, bend the elbow and curl the weight to about shoulder level. Making sure that you're staying nice, slow, and controlled during the movement and not arching your back to try to lift the weight.
