We’d like to offer you the opportunity to get outside, explore nature, go for a walk, and inhale some nice, fresh air. So we bring you, Spartan Nature Walks. Our department tree experts are full of fun facts and will guide you throughout Baker Woodlot for some peace of mind.

The walks begin at the EAST entrance to the woodlot on Bogue Street, next to the Life Science building, and take place from 1-2 PM. Note: this is a change to previous walks! We will be starting on the other side of the woodlot.

Sign up here if you would like updates regarding the nature walks.

Summer 2024 Schedule

May 4

Department Chair and Professor Rich Kobe will host the first summer Spartan Nature Walk. Rich will point out the ways the woodlot is changing and what new life is forming as we come into a new season. Since we are still transitioning from spring to summer, make sure and bring those boots, as it may be muddy.

June 1

Assistant Professor Asia Dowtin will guide June’s walk. For this special event, we are partnering with MSU Surplus and Recycling! Dr. Dowtin will provide polaroid cameras to participants so they can snap a photo of a tree, then immediately following the walk head over to Surplus where you can participate in an upcycling crafting event – a picture frame and/or a plant propagator/bud vase.

July 13

Assistant Professor Aki Koyama will guide July’s walk. Dr. Koyama is well versed in the features of the woodlot. Come see what is in bloom in the middle of the summer!

August 3 – TBD
