The National Association of Landscape Professionals names Marcus Duck the Outstanding Educator of the Year

On, March 17, 2018, at the closing ceremonies of the National Collegiate Landscape Competition (NCLC), the National Association of Landscape Professionals Foundation announced the recipient of its Outstanding Educator of the Year Award; Marcus Duck, Advisor and Instructor in the Department of Horticulture at Michigan State University (MSU). The award was initiated to recognize educators who have been passionate supporters and tireless ambassadors of the landscape industry. Recipients of the award are individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. They have contributed time, energy and enthusiasm to their programs, and show dedication to the education of future industry leaders.
Marcus competed at NCLC in 1996 (the Interior Plant Identification event) and 1997 (the Arboriculture Techniques event) as an undergraduate at Auburn University. He then went on to earn a M.S. degree in Horticulture at MSU and subsequently joined MSU faculty in 2002 where he serves as the Institute of Agricultural Technology Program Coordinator for the Department’s 2-year certificate programs. In this capacity, Marcus advises students, teaches six courses, and serves on many departmental committees. In addition, he is the Student Horticulture Association’s (SHA) advisor where he has coached and attended their NCLC team for fourteen years.
