Water is an important part of a healthy lifestyle
Get a weight loss boost from drinking plenty of water each day.
During the drought in Michigan last summer, we all saw the impact of the lack of water for crops and the lake levels. Crops wilted and parched while some of the Great Lakes reached a record level low. If that happens to our environment, what happens to our bodies when we don’t drink enough water?
Michigan State University Extension says that in the cold winter months our bodies need water just as much as the hot, summer months. It is easy to remember water when our bodies are perspiring from the heat, but when it is cooler; we often forget the need to hydrate. Water is an essential key to health – our bodies need approximately eight, eight ounce glasses of water each day. When you exercise to the point of sweating or the weather is hot, you need to increase the amount of your water consumption.
More than half of our body weight is water. Water is a key ingredient for our body’s functioning and provides many benefits. It protects our body’s organs and tissues, lubricates our joints, helps to prevent constipation, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells and lessons the burden on the kidneys and liver by flushing waste products. Water also moistens tissues such as those in the mouth, eyes and nose.
The benefits of water are vital to help your body function properly. Water has an additional benefit to help you lose weight and keep it off. Water suppresses the appetite naturally and can help your body metabolize stored fat. Without enough water, the kidneys can’t function properly which causes the liver to be less efficient. As a result, the liver metabolizes less fat which inhibits weight loss.
Treat your body like a prize winning plant – be sure to give it the water it needs to thrive and grow. Hydrate yourself to allow your body to perform optimally as well as get the added benefit of weight loss assistance. Strive for a minimum of eight, eight ounce glasses each day. Giving your body what it needs each day will lead to a healthier, hydrated you!
