Master of Science

Daedre McGrath completed her master’s degree in Horticulture at Michigan State University, where she researched the use of light-emitting diodes as an energy-efficient lighting alternative for producing photoperiodic ornamental crops.

For 10 years, Daedre was the Trial Manager at the MSU Horticulture Gardens where she was responsible for growing and evaluating new annual, perennial, vegetable, and succulent varieties from breeders across the globe. She also designed the display beds in the annual garden, and installed and maintained nearly 30,000 plants each year.

Bringing her real-world expertise into the classroom, Daedre now teaches five undergraduate horticulture courses. Her areas of specialization include annuals, houseplants, landscape and container design, greenhouse production, plant propagation, and public horticulture.
