| The second week of fun!!

Education Garden: Scavenger Hunt

In the morning, campers went on a scavenger hunt thanks to the help of our MSU Tollgate Volunteers. They also learned the importance of L.A.W.N (Land, Air, Water, Nutrition) and how these five things contribute to the growth and health of our Education Garden at MSU Tollgate Farm.

Bug Hunt:

Today our campers ventured out towards the pond in search of bugs and documenting what they saw in their notebooks. This is perfect for campers to learn all about the critters that crawl around on the forest floor, near the pond and in our gardens. During this activity as well campers found different items from the world around them and matched them to the colors in egg cartons!

Garden Kitchen: Latkes & Watermelon, blueberry smoothie

The two recipes the campers made were a huge hit! In the morning, campers make Latkes a Jewish dish made from potatoes! Many campers wanted seconds right after and everyone wouldn’t stop talking about it all day! By the afternoon, they had a yummy treat: watermelon, blueberry smoothie with oatmilk. A good refreshing treat on a hot summer day!

Fishing:

Today our campers got to put their skills to use with fishing! A few campers were able to catch some good sized fish from our pond. This does require some patience, campers had to wait before a fish would take a bite of the hook. They did amazing and had so much fun

STEM: Sustainable Farms

Yesterday our campers drew what a sustainable farm would look like and finished their drawings today! Our Educational Leaders were still figuring out this station as they went but the campers still had a blast!

 Track Trap:

On Monday our campers filled a trap with some snacks to possibly catch an animal. The yellow pepper group caught a baby racoon! Which was a nice surprise for that group. After they refilled the trap again then kept it in their same spots hoping to find an animal the next day!

Animal Chores: Ducks, Rabbits & goats

Our campers got the opportunity to feed our ducks some yummy kale today and helped clean out their coop. Others were able to milk our goat, Aster today! Some campers were a bit nervous but were brave helping milk the goats. The rest jumped right in and helped milk the goats!

That's a wrap for day 2 of camp! Stay tuned for a day 3 update!
