Winged Wonders Camp 2023 Day 1:
Learning all about birds!!
The 2023 MSU Tollgate Farm has banded together with Kellogg Biological Station to offer an exploration of wild and domestic birds through a hands-on learning adventure called Winged Wonders.
In its 8th year, campers become ornithologists as they study birds and their amazing feats at the historic farm in Novi, the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary in Hickory Corners, and at the Corey Marsh Preserve.
Camp began with the traditional Monday morning camp activities including flag ceremony, CARES skits, wagon ride, and tie-dye. Campers oversaw animal chores with the ducks and chickens as they collected eggs and learned how to hold a chicken.
They received their birding journals, set up a naked egg osmosis lab, carried out an embryology lab to learn about egg anatomy, and began birding by mapping the birds in the forest. Campers were packed and ready for the flight as they boarded a bus Tuesday to camp and bird at the bird sanctuary.
