PSM graduate student Jackie Guevara was selected for the 2021 James and Harriet Beard Outstanding Turfgrass Graduate Student Award. A single award is given each year to a graduate student enrolled in the Michigan State University, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, majoring in turfgrass management. Congratulations Jackie!
The Beard award's namesake is James B. Beard, who passed away in 2018. Dr. Beard was referred to the Godfather and Grandfather of turf science, by the many students he taught. Some of whom eventually became professors themselves. He authored hundreds of peer reviewed and technical papers and several textbooks on turf grass diseases.
Funding for the award was provided for by a generous gift from Dr. James B. Beard and his wife Harriet, along with donations from colleagues, friends, and former students.
