County Planning: Its Legal Authority and Coordinated Planning

Plans adopted by a county have a unique position, and function in Michigan – used for coordination between townships, villages, cities and other government agencies.  This is done with review of township, village and city plans and township zoning ordinances; review of capital improvement projects undertaken by several different government agencies.  This bulletin presents a brief overview of the unique aspects of a county plan.  This pamphlet reflects the changes as a result of the Michigan Planning Enabling Act and the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act.
