Undergraduate minor

Undergraduate Minor in Sustainable Bioproducts Science and Engineering (SBSE)

(Projected start date: fall 2018)

The minor is open to undergraduate students in forestry, material sciences engineering, construction management, biosystems engineering, and other closely related disciplines.

Students are required to complete 12-17 course credits and 1-3 internship additional credits depending on their major. Students completing the SBSE Minor will have a working knowledge of forest bioproducts including, anatomical, physical and chemical characteristics, engineering and design attributes, technology innovation, process protocols, and socioeconomic considerations.

Students in the minor are prepared to pursue a career or graduate degrees in the use of renewable resources for the development of bio-based materials that contribute to sustainable societies. Graduating students will be academically and professionally well positioned in acquiring employment in companies or government departments whose focus is wood science, green building construction and furnishing, bioproducts engineering, structural design, and other green bioproducts employment opportunities. Graduates will also be prepared for graduate studies in biomaterials and bioproducts, which will help position them for important jobs in helping develop and drive the forest bioeconomy.
