What is the Michigan 4-H Helping with Rainbow Hands Club
The Michigan 4-H Helping with Rainbow Hands clubs strives to create a friendly, positive environment for Michigan LGBTQIA+ (learn more about these terms) youth and their allies within Michigan 4-H and communities in the state. The club is the brainchild of two Michigan 4-H teens who attended the 2020 National 4-H True Leaders in Equity Institute and were inspired to create positive change in their 4-H community.
Who is eligible to apply?
Youth ages 15-19 who are interested in helping to create opportunities for LGBTQIA+ youth and allies to come together in fun, positive and supportive ways. While this group is a program of Michigan 4-H, youth do NOT need to be current 4-H’ers to apply; this opportunity is open to all teens interested in supporting the inclusion and participation of LGBTQIA+ youth and allies in Michigan 4-H. Youth will be asked to join Michigan 4-H upon acceptance into the program.
The club is currently still accepting youth to be a part of the statewide group. Teen leaders will develop their leadership skills and help to create additional opportunities for Michigan 4-H Helping with Rainbow Hands Club members. The group is working on expanding to expand to offer regional or local leadership teams and activities, as well.
When/where does the club meet?
Members meet virtually two times per month and should plan on committing about three hours of their time each month.
Why would youth be interested in the Michigan 4-H Helping with Rainbow Hands Club?
In addition to helping to create a more inclusive environment for all youth in Michigan 4-H and communities across the state, members of the teen leadership team will have the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills, expand their network and make friends from across the state.
How do youth apply?
Interested youth should complete the electronic application to join the statewide leadership team. Youth may apply to join at any time. If you are interested in starting a regional or local chapter, please contact one of the group's advisors below.
