Precollege programs offer young people a wonderful opportunity to briefly explore a particular career or academic area to see if it’s worth a closer look. Michigan 4-H offers a number of these opportunities or Michigan youth.

Through its flagship youth development program, Michigan 4-H, MSU Extension provides a number of precollege programs to Michigan youth. These include 4-H Animal and Veterinary Science Camp, 4-H Capitol Experience, 4-H Exploration Days, 4-H Great Lakes and Natural Resources Camp and World Food Prize Michigan Institute. Through their participation in these activities, youth are encouraged to attend postsecondary education as they receive real-life college experiences and explore potential career choices.

  • 4-H Animal & Veterinary Science Camp

At 4-H Animal & Vet Science Camp, youth ages 13-17 explore the fields of animal and veterinary science and engage in interactive, hands-on learning. Attend for your chance to practice veterinary medicine, research zoonotic conditions and discover careers!

  • 4-H Capitol Experience

4-H Capitol Experience is an annual conference that helps prepare youth for active citizenship by focusing on civic engagement and public policy.

  • 4-H Exploration Days

This MSU precollege program welcomes youth ages 12-19 to explore their future, try new things and experience college life! During this three-day event, youth will gain confidence and independence through hands-on learning and make friends for a lifetime.

Campers explore dunes, hike forest trails, wade through wetlands, fish, snorkel and sail on Lake Huron while educators and scientists teach them about the Great Lakes ecosystem.
