Dr. Andy SafalaohDr. Andy Safalaoh is an Associate Professor of Animal Nutrition at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR). Andy has a PhD in Science and Technology Studies (University of Nottingham, UK); Master of Science in Animal Science (Oklahoma State University, USA); BSc and Diploma in General Agriculture with Credits (University of Malawi). Andy has also attended several short courses and workshops on innovation including 8th International PhD School on Innovation and Economic Development: GLOBELICS Academy 2012, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2012); Pathways Approach STEPS Summer School 2012, Institute for Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex (2012); Innovation and Sustainable Development in Agriculture and Food (ISDA) Symposium, CIRAD, INRA, SupAGro,. Montpellier, France (2010). Andy is also a Cohort 10 Fellow of the Leadership in Environment and Development (LEAD) Programme, Imperial College London at Wye, UK (2004). Andy is currently the LUANAR Programmes Coordinator and Director for the MUST ISP LUANAR-Subcontract. Andy was at the helm of managing and implementation of the LUANAR Innovation Scholars Programme (2016-17) and the Frugal Innovation Practicum (2016-2018) in collaboration with the Global Centre for Food Systems Innovation (GCFSI) at Michigan State University. Apart from working with GCFSI, Andy has previously worked as Facilitator and Consultant for Regional Agriculture and Environmental Innovation Network (RAEIN-Africa, 2009)) Innovation Systems Approach Competency Building Training Programme in Malawi, Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa; and as Regional Expert and Consulting Facilitator for the Agriculture Science Technology Innovation Systems (ASTI) Programme for the African Caribbean and Pacific Region (ACP), Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development (CTA), Wageningen, The Netherlands (2007 to 2010) where he facilitated training workshops on ASTI Systems in Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.
