Zione Kalumikiza

Ms. Kalumikiza is a Nutritionist who holds a Master of Science degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition and a Bsc in Agriculture (Nutrition and Food science option). A season trainer on a wide range of nutrition and research related topics including Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition, SMART and Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS) surveys; her interests are in approaches for maximizing nutrition impacts from agricultural and education interventions. Through her work, Zione hopes to generate evidence for programming and policy decisions in the field of food and nutrition sciences. Currently working as a Lecturer in Public Health Nutrition at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural resources (LUANAR), Zione has previously worked as a Research Coordinator for the Scaling-Up Nutrition (SUN) Operational Research at the same institution. Prior to that, she worked with the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Lilongwe City Council as Food and Nutrition Officer and Social Welfare Officer, respectively.
Zione is an alumnus of the African Nutrition Leadership Programme (ANLP), the IDS Transform Nutrition short course, Australia Awards Africa short course on Increasing Development Impacts of Agriculture Research (IDIAR), and the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) fellowship. She is passionate about people development and loves to share knowledge and build skills, even beyond her work environment. Her professional profile includes serving as a coach for Design Thinking for MUST Innovation Scholars Programme facilitated by LUANAR and the Michigan State University, and, coordination of the Malawi Donor group on Nutrition Security (DoNUTS) as well as the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Donor network. Currently studying for a PhD in Public Health, Ms Kalumikiza has experience in working with diverse groups of people and institutions, with engagements at both national and community levels, including partnerships in research and facilitation. On the sides, Zione devotes her time to mentoring girls through M4H Initiative, a local initiative she co-founded to advance the empowerment of girls and women in Malawi.
