Farm Journal Foundation, in conjunction with MSU's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, will host the a panel event on September 5 at the MSU Pavilion to discuss the urgent need for investment in agricultural research, Extension, and development. The event will discuss the urgent need for funding agricultural research and development investment domestically and abroad. Researchers, farmers, and members of congress will reflect on how agricultural innovations have transformed our food systems and what needs to be improved to avoid a food crisis in the future. We will discuss ways in which global food security impacts national security and how we can invest long-term to protect our food system. We will also discuss how Michigan has a vast variety of agriculture products that provide high nutrient value to diets to prevent hunger and disease.

Hosted by Katie Lee, Vice President of Government Affairs at Farm Journal Foundation, the panel discussion will focus on "How Agricultural Research and Extension Improves Global Food and Nutrition Security". Panelists will include:

  • Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin, Michigan 7th District
  • Ken Nobis, Farmer Ambassador, Farm Journal Foundation
  • Dr. George Smith, Director of MSU AgBioResearch
  • Dr. Quentin Tyler, Director of MSU Extension

The panel will take place from 1-2 p.m., and an ice cream social with MSU Dairy Store ice cream will occur from 2-3 p.m.
