Getting Here

TRAIN

The Amtrak station is right on the MSU campus, 1 mile from the conference center. It is a 3 – 4 hour trip from Chicago’s Union Station. More information here.


BUS

The Greyhound bus station is at the same location as the Amtrak train station in East Lansing. It is a 6-7 hour trip from Chicago. There are several Greyhound stations in Chicago — the main one is on 630 W. Harrison Street, which is 4-5 blocks from Union Station. There is another Greyhound station right at Union Station (225 Canal Street). A list and map of all Chicago Greyhound stations can be found here.

An additional option is to utilize both Amtrak and Greyhound services in planning your trip.

If you plan do some sight-seeing while you are here in Michigan, there are many Greyhound stations throughout the state (please see “Visiting Michigan” page for a map of Greyhound locations in Michigan).


AIRPORTS (in order by distance from East Lansing)

Lansing (9 miles, 17 minutes to MSU campus): Capital Region International Airport (LAN)
Flint (44 miles, 45 minutes to MSU): Bishop International Airport (FNT)
Grand Rapids (63 miles, 57 minutes to MSU): Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR)
Kalamazoo/Battle Creek (77 miles, 1 hour 9 minutes to MSU): Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport (AZO)
Detroit (95 miles, 1 hour 25 minutes to MSU): Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW).

There is a very nice bus (Michigan Flyer) that makes round trips between DTW and Marriott Hotel in downtown East Lansing 12 times per day. It costs $40-$50 round trip and has free Wi-Fi. It takes about 2 hours one way.


For guests flying into Lansing or using the Michigan Flyer from the Detroit airport:

The Kellogg Center offers a shuttle service every hour (from Lansing airport) or every half hour (from Marriott Hotel in East Lansing) for guests that are staying at the Kellogg Center. To schedule this service, you will need to call the Kellogg Center and provide your name, phone number, and arrival time of your flight (Lansing airport) or bus (Michigan Flyer).

Another option for traveling between the Lansing airport or Marriott Hotel and the Kellogg Center is to use the Green Cab Company for environmentally-friendly service. Their number is 517-643-1905, and the rate is $2/mile.

The Marriott Hotel in East Lansing is about 1 mile from the Kellogg Center, so walking may also be a feasible option for some people using the Michigan Flyer.
