Apples are being harvested later than predicted for 2011

Apples are maturing slower than we predicted. Several factors may be the cause.

It appears that our predicted harvest dates might be a few days ahead of the actual maturity for some areas of the state. Some early apple varieties were picked a few days later than expected and Red Haven peach harvest was behind by a few days. ReTain applications can be delayed a few days, but this is not critical. ReTain applied according to the original predicted harvest dates will be well within the application timing for optimum results.

If you have not applied your 30 days before harvest treatment, consider delaying the application an extra three days. Delayed maturity may be due to apple set fruit on later and secondary bloom, heavy crop load and perhaps extreme summer temperatures.
