In 2024, central Michigan welcomed me as their new Michigan State University (MSU) Extension consumer horticulture program instructor. I cover Clare, Isabella, Gladwin, Mecosta, Missaukee, Osceola and Wexford counties. In my position, I support the MSU Extension Master Gardener Program® and bring other garden-related programs and resources to the area. After a busy first year, I am excited to finally share a bit about myself and my background.

I was excited to start this position because of the opportunity to work with people, partners and volunteers on outreach events and programs related to gardening. Working with citizens of all ages, I enjoy sharing science-based, environmentally sound gardening knowledge to improve the lives of those in our communities.

After earning my bachelor’s of science degree in agricultural business management from Michigan State University, I worked in accounting and human resources in various fields of the agriculture industry including cattle, an agricultural equipment dealership and a grain elevator. Through my experiences, I learned many different aspects of the agricultural world, but all led back to one focus: providing products to local citizens. Now, working for MSU Extension, I can share MSU Extension resources and bring events to those who live in our communities.

As a member of the MSU Extension consumer horticulture team, we offer many learning opportunities to people across the state, like the Foundations of Gardening course. I am here to help people find out about these opportunities so they can learn more about growing plants and their own food. Gardening has positive impacts on health and well-being of individuals and their community.

With the help of MSU Extension Master Gardener volunteers and outreach events, we spread knowledge on native plants, vegetable gardening and garden planning and maintenance. I hope to expand the program and offer more inclusive projects that will educate the public and create beautiful, inviting spaces for all to enjoy. While I am based out of the Gladwin County MSU Extension office (555 W. Cedar Ave. Suite A. Gladwin, MI 48624), I offer programs and volunteer support to Clare, Isabella, Gladwin, Mecosta, Missaukee, Osceola and Wexford counties.
