The 5-year 0.11-mill renewal request that will appear on the August 7, 2018, ballot will provide continued funding for MSU Extension educational programs in Gladwin County such as:

  • 4-H Youth Development
  • Agriculture and Agribusiness
  • Child and Family Development
  • Community and Urban Agriculture
  • Health and Nutrition
  • Master Gardener Volunteer Program
  • Natural Resources

The property tax will cost the average Gladwin County homeowner less than $11 a year.

4-H Youth Development

More than 25% of Gladwin County youth have developed critical life skills in 4-H clubs and groups and in early childhood, afterschool and school enrichment programs. Sixty percent of Gladwin County 4-H seniors graduating between 2012 and 2017 enrolled in college after high school, while 41 percent of all Gladwin County 18- to 24-year-olds did so.

Health and Nutrition

More than 500 adults and youth have made strides toward healthier living through participating in MSU Extension programs on disease prevention and management skills, food safety, food preservation, nutrition and physical activity.

Agriculture and Agribusiness

Gladwin County is home to 533 farms that can benefit from MSU Extension–delivered research on proven practices and strategies for increasing farm production and profit and reducing risks to crops, plants, livestock and the environment.

Family Financial Health

MSU Extension helps Gladwin County families learn the skills they need to increase savings, manage spending, avoid predatory lending, and reduce mortgage and tax defaults.

Gardening

Over 70,000 people have learned about gardening through face-to-face programming, online visits and calls to the MSU Extension lawn and garden hotline.
